Cork lawyer Catherine Kirwan triumphs with her second novel

Catherine Kirwan has entered the Irish bestsellers list with her latest book Cruel Misdeeds telling the tale of a lawyer’s murder in her adopted home town of Cork and the subsequent investigations by legal sleuth Finn Fitzpatrick.

The book is a second hit for Catherine following on from the Darkest Truth, which was also an Irish bestseller.

A solicitor with Finbarr Murphy, Catherine, originally from Waterford and a UCC graduate, applies her powers of observation to produce a pithy but pleasing portrait of Cork as a backdrop to the thriller with a twist.

It is little wonder that the reviews have been effusive: “‘Confirms Catherine Kirwan as a major new talent’, ‘deviously plotted mystery’, ‘vivid characters’, ‘distinctive dialogue’” (Irish Independent). and “‘A captivating read’, ‘an immersive tale’, ‘suspenseful’, ‘completely unexpected conclusion’, ‘relatable characters’” (Sunday Independent).

The success of Cruel Deeds will leave her fans eager to read the further adventures of Finn Fitzpatrick.
