Staff at Carson McDowell are bringing the Lawyers in School legal education initiative to students at Malone Integrated College.

During the twelve-week programme, 12 volunteers from the firm will work with 20 lower-sixth students to educate them on a range of legal areas of importance to young people, including employment law, social media, discrimination, IP and human rights, among others.

The programme is delivered in partnership with the Citizenship Foundation and funded by the Legal Education Fund.

Jacqueline McAleese, partner at Carson McDowell, said: “After establishing the programme in Northern Ireland last year we are pleased to continue to work with a new group of young people at Malone Integrated College, providing them with the vital legal knowledge they’ll need as the approach adulthood.

“We are now keen to see more of our industry peers lend their support and extend the reach of this valuable and important programme.”

Dr Anne Rice, project officer at the Citizenship Foundation, added: “By bringing legal professionals into the classroom we are ensuring the students at Malone Integrated College are receiving a first class insight into the legal system from those who know it best.

“This support will not only help them to understand their rights and responsibilities but will also provide a view into career opportunities in the legal sector.”
