Irish-born lawyer Caroline Carberry KC, one of England’s leading criminal silks, has joined criminal law chambers 2BR.
Ms Carberry, previously of Furnival Chambers, has for many years been recognised as a leading criminal silk, defending and prosecuting in the most serious, complex and often high-profile criminal cases.
She has achieved convictions in a number of “legal first” cases – the first successful female genital mutilation prosecution, the first intentional infection of multiple men with HIV and, in 2024, the “Eunchmaker” case which involves the prosecution of multiple men for the backstreet surgeries to remove genitalia.
A native of Derrynoose in south Armagh, Ms Carberry called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1995 and took silk in 2017.
In a press release, 2BR welcomed both Ms Carberry and Lisa Bald as new members of chambers.
Christine Agnew KC, joint head of 2BR, said: “We are thrilled that Caroline and Lisa have joined 2BR, both brilliant barristers at the top of their profession.
“Their talent and commitment adds to our already established strength in depth as one of the leading top tier criminal sets and helps demonstrate how bright the future is for 2BR.”
Ms Carberry joins a number of Irish and Northern Ireland barristers at 2BR, including Ms Agnew, Kiernan Vaughan KC, Sam Magee KC, Sam Green KC, Ashley Hendron, Tomas McGarvey and Conall Bailie.
