Arthur Cox Northern Ireland has appointed David Black as head of its litigation and dispute resolution practice.

Mr Black joined the firm in 2011 and is a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution group.

He has extensive experience advising on complex commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, professional negligence matters, and high‑stakes litigation.

He has acted for leading domestic and international clients across a diverse range of sectors including automotive, financial services, retail, manufacturing and infrastructure.

Mr Black succeeds Catriona Gibson, who continues with the firm as chair and a consultant.

Lynsey Mallon, managing partner of Arthur Cox NI, said: “David is an exceptional lawyer and a highly trusted adviser to clients navigating complex, high-stakes disputes.

“His appointment as head of litigation and dispute resolution reflects both his deep technical capability and his ability to lead and inspire.

“He succeeds Catriona Gibson, whose leadership over many years has been central to establishing the strength and reputation of our litigation practice.

“I would like to thank Catriona for her immense contribution. I am pleased that she will continue with Arthur Cox NI as chair and consultant.”

Mr Black said: “It is a privilege to take on this role and to lead a team known for its technical excellence and commitment to client service.

“Litigation continues to grow in complexity and importance, and our clients value advice that is commercially informed and delivered with clarity.

“I look forward to building on the strong platform established by Catriona, to lead the practice into its next phase of growth and development, and to work with colleagues across the firm to continue to support our clients in providing a pragmatic commercial approach to dispute resolution.”
