Arklow District Court hearings will be held at a local GAA club from September until next spring after renovation works at Arklow Courthouse get under way.

The €120,000 renovation will add two new consultation rooms, secure rear parking, a victim support room and CCTV to the 19th-century courthouse in Arklow, Co Wicklow, the Wicklow People reports.

From 11 September 2019, court sittings will be held at the Rock Parnells GAA Centre on the Emoclew Road.

Solicitor Deirdre Burke of Burke Legal told the Wicklow People that the relocation was “not ideal”, but acceptable as “a temporary measure for a longer-term improvement”.

She added: “I don’t anticipate any negative impact on privacy. At the courthouse, courtgoers are either inside or outside. The renovations are so needed, particularly private areas where people can consult with their solicitors. The improvements are long-overdue.”
