And finally… timberrrrrr!!!!

A determined thief made off with a £2,000 mountain bike after using a saw and evident expertise to cut down the tree to which it was tethered.

When the 28-year-old owner returned to his bike, he found that it was missing, along with the better part of the corresponding tree.

The baffling theft took place in the German city of Kassel.

Police said the tree in question was 13 years old and 50 centimetres in circumference, the Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine reports.

The damage to the tree has been estimated at €5,000.
