And finally... thumbs down

A man has been convicted of defamation for liking Facebook posts.

The unnamed 45-year-old man was convicted in a Swiss court on Monday after liking several Facebook posts in 2015 which accused the CEO of an animal rights group of racism and anti-Semitism.

Judge Catherine Gerwig, in Zurich, said the defandant was “spreading a value judgement” by liking the posts, the Tages Anzeiger reports.

She said a “like” is associated with a positive, and therefore the action could be interpreted as support for its content.

Further, Judge Gerwig said he couldn’t prove the allegations were true.

The man was given a suspended fine and a place in Swiss legal history.
