And finally… taxi for Morofu

A taxi driver whose long list of driving offences saw him branded a “maniac” by a District Court judge has been advised to seek alternative employment.

Asamashun Morofu, 47, appeared in Drogheda District Court after being caught driving the wrong way around a roundabout and up a one way street at 144 kph - while disqualified from driving and heading to court on another driving offence.

Morofu has an impressive list of 62 previous convictions for driving offences.

The Irish Independent reports that Judge Flann Brennan told the accused: “You are a maniac who thinks he has a God given right to drive.”

He added: “You should look for alternative employment as the last thing you are suitable for is taxi driving.”

When Morofu protested, Judge Brennan replied: “You are a broken record and I don’t want to listen anymore. You are talking rubbish and tripe.”

The case has been adjourned until 20 November.
