And finally… sweet sorrow

An exam board has been slapped with a record £175,000 fine after confusing the Montagues and the Capulets in an English exam paper.

Almost 15,000 school pupils were asked to answer a question about “Tybalt’s hatred of the Capulets” in Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet, even though the character Tybalt is a Capulet himself.

A total of 14,261 students in England and Wales were given the exam paper while sitting their English GCSEs and thousands of candidates’ grades were affected, requiring mitigating action from the board.

Exam board OCR has said it will not contest the £175,000 fine.
