And finally... sugar rush hour

A Twix advert has been banned in the UK for encouraging dangerous driving.

The minute-long advert shows a race between two cars, one of which tumbles down a cliff and lands upside down on the other, becoming joined sunroof to sunroof.

The identical drivers are then shown enjoying a Twix and driving off in the newly double-decker vehicle as the slogan “Two Is More Than One” is displayed on the screen.

The UK’s Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) said it received five complaints that the ads “encouraged dangerous driving and were irresponsible”.

Twix maker Mars Wrigley said the driving depicted in the ad “was clearly in a fantasy world and would be impossible to recreate”.

Clearcast, an NGO which clears ads for broadcast, submitted that “the ad’s fantastical and cinematic presentation made it clear the driving was exaggerated and not intended to be emulated”.

However, the ASA said the first few seconds of the ad where one of the motorists smiles and accelerates was “clearly realistic”.

“We considered the emphasis on a chase, and the speed inherent to that, and the driving manoeuvres featured would be dangerous and irresponsible if emulated in real life on a public highway,” it said.

“Because we considered the driving depicted in the ads condoned unsafe driving, that appeared likely to breach the legal requirements of the Highway Code, we concluded the ads were irresponsible.”

The ASA said the ads “must not appear again in their current form” and has told Mars Wrigley that it must not “condone or encourage irresponsible driving that was likely to breach the legal requirements of the Highway Code in their ads”.
