And finally… Oxford rogue?

A Nigerian lawyer has launched a lawsuit against Oxford University Press for allegedly mixing up the definitions of “mortgagee” and “mortgagor” in an edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.

Ogedi Ogu said his reputation suffered after he relied on the incorrect definitions while giving legal advice to a colleague.

He said the publisher had acknowledged the error in a letter, but said the dictionary is “a reference tool only” and not an alternative to “independent legal or financial advice”.

Ogu’s lawsuit names the University of Oxford and Oxford University Press as defendants, Nigerian newspaper The Punch reports.

The High Court in Lagos State has yet to fix a date for the hearing.
