And finally... law is an ass

A Moroccan court has fined a football supporter 10,000 dirhams (about €2,300; £2,000) after he repeatedly called a club president a “donkey” in Facebook posts criticising his management of the team.

The court in Kenitra ruled that the term amounted to an insult under Moroccan law, although it did not meet the threshold for defamation.

According to local reports, the supporter accused the president of leading the club “towards disaster” and repeatedly used the insult online. He was subsequently arrested, prosecuted and ordered to pay the fine.

The court found that describing someone as a “donkey” on a public social media platform was degrading and offensive, even though it did not involve a specific allegation capable of being proven or disproven.

Moroccan law treats both insult and defamation as offences against personal dignity and reputation, whether committed in person, through traditional media or online.
