And finally… schooled

A first-year law student has already won his first case after he used his new legal knowledge to successfully sue his landlord.

Jack Simm, 19, sued his student accommodation provider in Norwich over the state of the property, which he likened to a “building site”.

A student at the University of East Anglia, he referred to his textbooks for the law on contract representation before suing for breach of contract and misrepresentation.

After an online hearing at Newcastle County Court, he was awarded what he had paid so far in rent, his deposit and court costs, the BBC reports.

Mr Simm said: “I studied contract law at the time. To me it was quite an easy case of opening my contract law textbook and looking through some of the relevant law and applied it to the situation.”
