And finally… get a grip

The president of Tajikistan has proposed declaring 22 March a public holiday in recognition of wrestlers.

President Emomali Rahmon proposed the holiday as a national wrestling competition gets underway in capital Dushanbe today.

The country is currently celebrating Navruz, otherwise known as the Persian New Year.

President Rahmon suggested the “day of wrestling” could be the first of three consecutive public holidays, with the subsequent days celebrating horse riders and gardening respectively.

All three would reflect traditional new year activities in the central Asian country.
