And finally… devil is in the detail

And finally... devil is in the detail

More than 22,000 people have inadvertently signed up for 1,000 hours of community service each after failing to read the terms of a public Wi-Fi hotspot.

Manchester-based company Purple inserted the community service clause into the terms and conditions for its public Wi-Fi hotspots to illustrate “a lack of consumer awareness of what they are signing up to when they access free wifi”.

The sneaky clause committed users to cleaning toilets at festivals, scraping gum off pavements, and “manually relieving sewer blockages”.

Just one person successfully claimed a prize for anyone who actually read the terms and conditions and noted the clause, The Guardian reports.
