And finally… annus horribilis

Distinctive multicoloured briefs led to the arrest of a robbery suspect over a year after the crime.

On September 14, 2022, three masked men robbed a tobacco shop in Queens, New York, with two brandishing guns and a third emptying the cash register.

Footage from the scene revealed that one robber was wearing bright briefs, marked with a large ‘R’ and ‘1990’. An anonymous tip linked his unique underwear to an Instagram account.

Detectives traced the suspect to a second location in Queens, where he attempted to sell the stolen goods, this time unmasked.

Arrested at his Queens home by a joint NYPD-ATF task force, he awaits arraignment in Brooklyn federal court.
