113 students graduate with Barrister at Law degree from King’s Inns

The Honorable Society of King’s Inns this week graduated 113 students from the Barrister-at-Law Class of 2026.

Of the 113 students, 100 were admitted having completed their studies at King’s Inns, while 13 were admitted from Northern Ireland, England and Wales.

The ceremony recognised the successful completion of the Barrister-at-Law degree and formally admitted students to the final stage of their journey towards becoming practising barristers.

The event was attended by the Benchers of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, including Mr Hugh Mohan SC, chair of the Council of King’s Inns, Mary Griffin, CEO and Under Treasurer, and members of faculty.

The keynote address was delivered by the Hon. Mr Justice Paul Burns, Judge of the Court of Appeal and chairman of the Education Committee, who reflected on the enduring importance of legal education, the role of the legal profession in serving society, and the values that underpin Ireland’s justice system.

In his address, Mr Justice Burns highlighted King’s Inns’ commitment to widening access to legal education, recognising the importance of providing pathways for those balancing study with full-time employment or entering the profession later in life. He also emphasised the institution’s continued efforts to broaden participation through scholarships and community outreach.

Speaking to the graduating class, Mr Justice Burns reminded students of the wider responsibility that comes with a legal education, noting that: “Law and lawyers are there to serve the community.”

He also encouraged graduates to uphold the democratic values of “Freedom, Equality and Justice for all” as they begin the next stage of their professional careers.

Mary Griffin, CEO and Under Treasurer of King’s Inns, said: “The Admission Ceremony is a proud moment for our students and for everyone at King’s Inns. It celebrates the commitment, perseverance and professionalism of this year’s graduates while recognising the important role they will play in Ireland’s legal system.”

The newly qualified Barristers were Called to the Bar this week, in time to begin their pupillage in the Law Library at the start of the next legal year.

Diploma in Legal Studies

This week, 54 students were also conferred at King’s Inns with the Diploma in Legal Studies.  The address was delivered by The Hon. Mr Justice David Nolan.
