Deputy Chief Appeals Officers

A new international protection appeals structure, the Tribunal for Asylum and Returns Appeals (TARA), is to be established in 2026, pursuant to the International Protection Bill 2026, when enacted.

The TARA will replace the International Protection Appeals Tribunal and is due to be operational by June 2026. It is expected that TARA will have the capacity to process appeals in shorter timeframes than those which exist in the current system.

The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration is seeking to appoint Deputy Chief Appeals Officers to TARA. These roles present an opportunity for successful candidates to be part of a new and dynamic appeals process at a time of significant and fundamental change in the international protection system.

The Deputy Chief Appeals Officer will be a member of the senior management structure of TARA and will support the Chief Appeals Officer in ensuring that the functions of the Tribunal are carried out efficiently.

Full details of the role, including specific eligibility requirements, is available on www.publicjobs.ie.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 3pm on Tuesday, 21st April 2026.

We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity and encourage applications under all nine grounds of the Employment Equality Acts.
