Chief Appeals Officer (Designate) 5 Year Fixed-Term Contract

The Tribunal for Asylum and Returns Appeals (TARA), is to be established, pursuant to the International Protection Bill 2026, (when enacted) and will make provisions for new structures and processes to implement the EU Migration and Asylum Pact.

The TARA will replace the International Protection Appeals Tribunal and is due to be operational by June 2026. It is expected that TARA will have the capacity process appeals in shorter timeframes than those which exist in the current system.

The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration is now seeking to recruit the Chief Appeals Officer of the TARA. The Chief Appeals Officer will lead the new body in respect of its decision-making function on appeals.

This role presents an excellent opportunity to be part of a new and dynamic appeals process at a time of significant and fundamental change in the international protection system.

Full details of the role, including specific eligibility requirements is available on www.publicjobs.ie.
