Assistant Parliamentary Counsel Grade II

The Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to the Government is a constituent part of the Office of the Attorney General.

Assistant Parliamentary Counsel Grade II will be part of a specialised team of lawyers who draft Government Bills, including Bills to amend the Constitution, and amendments to Bills. They will also be responsible for drafting Government Orders and some statutory instruments made by Ministers of the Government, including instruments made for the purposes of compliance with European Union obligations of the State.

Candidates must be called to the Bar of Ireland and be enrolled as a Barrister in the State or have been admitted and be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State and have significant experience as a practising Barrister or practising Solicitor in the State. In addition, they must have an ability to analyse complex legal issues and deliver high quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates who are successful in this competition will be placed on a panel, in an order of merit, to fill current and future vacancies which may arise.
