Victims of violent crime receive €28m over five years

Victims of violent crime have been paid €27.81 million through the criminal injuries compensation scheme in the past five years.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has published information about payments made by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal from 2012 to 2017.

A total of 1,103 applications were received over the period and payments were made in 562 of those cases.

Last year, 73 payments were made totalling €3.765 million. The single largest payment was €954,000 and the smallest payment was €67.

Meanwhile, six payments have already been made this year for a total of €768,000, including a single payment of €618,000.
