Current and past Judicial Assistants at the UK Supreme Court explained their role at a meeting in Edinburgh last night.

The event was organised by the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) and kindly hosted by the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland.

The JAs delivered insightful reflections on their roles and stressed the privileges afforded them by this “dream job”.

Ewan McCaig and James Fagan, both current JAs, gave details of the application and interview process and the kind of work JAs do, which includes preparing press summaries as well as the daunting task of discussing cases with the Justices.

Alice Normand, a past JA, gave attendees an idea of how the job can shape and influence a career.

The UK Supreme Court will sit in Belfast for the first time for up to four days of hearings in April and May this year.
