UCD hosting Information Session on ‘The Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act’ on 27 April

The ADM Acts (2015 & 2022) and the Decision Support Service will commence on April 26th 2023. To coincide with the commencement of the Act, the UCD Centre for Constitutional Studies is hosting an information seminar the following day (27 April) with a distinguished panel of speakers including the President of the High Court, Mr Justice David Barniville. Other speakers include Senior Counsel and organiser, Professor Eoin Carolan SC, Áine Hynes of St. John Solicitors, Orla Keane of the General Counsel Mental Health Commission/Decision Support Service, Fiona McNulty of Mason Hayes & Curran Solicitors and Barrister Aoife Mulligan.

The Act marks the biggest change for decades in Ireland’s legal framework for people with capacity issues. The Act abolishes the current wards of court system and replaces it with a new framework which is intended to maximise autonomy for people who require support to make decisions about their personal welfare, property and financial affairs.

The UCD Seminar is in person in UCD Sutherland School of Law on Thursday 27 April between 1.30pm and 5.30pm. There is a fee to attend (€60/€40) and registration is on the UCD School of Law website here (or email law.events@ucd.ie with any queries).
