Tributes paid to retiring State Solicitor for Co Sligo

Tributes have been paid to to Hugh Sheridan, the retiring State Solicitor for County Sligo, the Sligo Champion reports.

Mr Sheridan qualified as a solicitor in 1982 and was appointed State Solicitor in 1998 to succeed Tom Tighe.

Judge Keenan Johnson led tributes to Mr Sheridan on his last appearance in Sligo Circuit Court, saying that he fulfilled the role with “efficiency, courtesy and most importantly, humanity”.

Michael Quigley, speaking for the Sligo Solicitors’ Association, said Mr Sheridan was “unfailingly professional and humane in the discharge of his duties and in his dealings”.

Dara Foynes BL, speaking for the Midland Bar, said he has “huge integrity, a strong sense of justice and is extremely compassionate”.

Michele O’Boyle, for the Law Society, called him a “practitioner of exceptional ability and skill with a profound sense of justice”.
