Three solicitors appointed to sheriff roles

Three solicitors have been appointed as Dublin City Sheriff, Revenue Sheriff for Sligo and Roscommon, and Revenue Sheriff for Kildare and Carlow.

Joseph Burke will take on the role of Dublin City Sheriff from 16 December, succeeding James Barry. He has served as count supervisor for local and European elections in the office of the Dublin County Sheriff and has been a managing partner in private practice.

David Kelly will become Revenue Sheriff for Sligo and Roscommon from 23 December, having previously served as an assistant to the outgoing sheriff, John Kelly. He was previously an associate solicitor in private practice.

Alice Lanigan will become Revenue Sheriff for Kildare and Carlow from 29 January 2019, replacing Frank Lanigan. She is a practising solicitor with over 11 years’ experience in the areas of debt and asset recovery, professional indemnity, property damage and personal injury.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said: “I would like to congratulate Joseph Burke, David Kelly and Alice Lanigan on their appointments to the posts of Dublin City Sheriff and as Revenue Sheriffs respectively. The three appointees bring extensive experience to their new positions and I am confident that they will carry out their roles with distinction.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank James Barry, John Kelly and Frank Lanigan and wish them well for the future.”

Revenue sheriffs are responsible for the enforcement of revenue certificates under section 960L of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997.
