Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to meet opposition parties early next week in order to finalise proposed legislation supporting the inquiry into certain IBRC transactions.

The judge-led Commission of Investigation investigating the wind-up of the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) has been held up by issues relating to confidentiality.

Draft legislation designed to address the issue will be circulated to opposition parties by Mr Kenny in the next few days.

The Taoiseach has also extended the inquiry’s deadline to April 2017 and provided €3 million to fund its work this year.

Last November, Judge Brian Cregan, chair of the commission, advised the Taoiseach that the commission was “not in a position to proceed with its investigation into any of the relevant ‘write-off’ transactions” due to the confidentiality issues.

His position was supported by Attorney General Máire Whelan SC.
