Supreme Court to sit in Kilkenny early next year

The Supreme Court will sit in Kilkenny early next year and Castlebar the year after that, the Chief Justice of Ireland, Mr Justice Frank Clarke, has said.

The plans for the court’s fourth- and fifth-ever sittings outside of Dublin have been warmly welcomed by the Mayo Solicitors’ Bar Association.

Mr Justice Clarke confirmed that the court would sit in Co Mayo in February/March 2021 as he addressed the association’s annual dinner on Saturday night, Western People reports.

The Supreme Court sat outside of Dublin for the first time in its history when it visited Cork in 2015 on the initiative of former Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Susan Denham.

It subsequently visited Limerick in 2018 and Galway earlier this year, which also marked the first time it sat outside of a courthouse since its return to the Four Courts in 1932.
