Stress and depression account for half of all calls to lawyers' charity in 2015

A charity offering advice and support to lawyers said stress and depression made up half of all calls it received in 2015.

LawCare received 907 calls in 2015 from 496 people, up from 473 in 2014.

Workplace stress accounted for 30 per cent of all calls, followed by depression at 20 per cent, and disciplinary issues, which made up 12 per cent.

Five per cent of calls related to financial problems and four per cent to alcohol.

Among other problems were harassment, gambling problems, bullying, ethical issues, relationship issues and career development matters.

Two out of three callers were female, as in 2014, while almost four in ten were trainees or less than five years qualified.

Of those who called, 57 per cent were based in England and Wales.
