Co Mayo firm P. O’Connor & Son has appointed Samantha Geraghty as its new managing partner.

Ms Geraghty succeeds former Law Society president Pat O’Connor, who continues in practice as a senior partner in the firm.

Having joined as an intern in June 2000, Ms Geraghty has progressed through the firm, becoming a partner in 2008. Over the past 15 years, she has played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth and development.

She guides and represents a diverse portfolio of clients in corporate, commercial, banking and finance matters, specialising in commercial property, corporate law and business development.

Ms Geraghty is also a notary public, as well as a member of the governing council of the Faculty of Notaries Public, and a chartered tax advisor.

She is a member of Clár na Cleachtóirí Gaeilge and was recognised at the Irish Law Awards 2022 as the Irish Language Practitioner of the Year.

Welcoming the appointment, outgoing managing partner Pat O’Connor said: “My tenure as managing partner has been immensely fulfilling. I am delighted to hand over to an outstanding lawyer with Samantha’s exceptional experience, achievements and ambition.

“Our reputation has been built on traditions of integrity, confidentiality and efficiency. I have every confidence that Samantha will uphold these traditions, while continuing to grow the firm.”

Ms Geraghty said: “It is an honour to now lead the firm where I completed a traineeship some 20 years ago. I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work and leadership of the former managing partner, Patrick O’Connor, who welcomed me in to what was then his family firm more than 20 years ago.

“His hard work and ambition for the firm provided the foundations of the modern progressive firm we have become.

“I would also like to recognise the wonderful team of people who together make up P. O’Connor & Son. A large number of our team are with us for upwards of three and four decades and continue to make a valuable contribution on a daily basis.

“Finally, I would like to thank our clients for their continued support and trust in us. We are very lucky to work with great people and I believe the future of this firm is bright.”
