Retired Dublin lawyers set up successful lingerie firm

Two retired lawyers who helped set up the Dublin office of international law firm Walkers have achieved business success with their new lingerie brand.

Vicki Ashman (née Hazelden) and Ian Ashman told The Irish Sun that they plan to expand their high-end Scrumpies of Mayfair lingerie brand across the Middle East and Europe in the months to come.

The pair were the founding partners of Walkers’ Dublin office when it opened in 2010 and hired “most of the Irish lawyers” at the time.

However, they said they were adjusting well to a very different career.

Ms Ashman said: “Corporate law — without doing it a disservice — is not creative. It’s all about rules and applying them. Getting involved in the design and creativity of this business was completely new.

“I was at a meeting with our designer and he asked, ‘Are these designs too Nicki Minaj?’ I’d never been to a meeting before where anyone could be talking about Nicki Minaj.”

The pair are originally from England and Scrumpies is marketed as “British designed luxury knickers”, but they live permanently in Dublin.
