Profile: Dr Eddie O’Gorman of PatentNav Ireland Ltd

Dr Eddie O’Gorman is founder and director of PatentNav Ireland Ltd which specialises in patent searching, competitor watches, patent filings, providing innovation scoring on innovation grants as well as providing freedom to operate opinions.

PatentNav Ireland Ltd was founded in 2012 and has grown steadily since then. In 2013, PatentNav had the only iPad app made in Ireland launched in time for the iPad launch that year, called “Inventoraid”.

Over the years, Eddie has helped SME companies and individuals secure patent filings at minimal costs, ensuring these inventors and companies were not burdened with professional fees at such an early stage.

On larger scale projects, Eddie has helped some Irish companies go from idea to product launch or prototype manufacture, after providing a freedom to operate path around existing patents.

Prior to PatentNav, Eddie worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a patent manager, which involved litigation in the US, UK and Europe, patent searches, advising board members on freedom to operate and updating the company on patent law updates.

Before his industrial position, Eddie worked in a couple of patent firms after obtaining a Masters in intellectual property management from QMW, London.

Eddie obtained his PhD from the ETH-Zurich on creatine depletion and completed a postdoc at Manchester University’s School of Biological Sciences involving proteomics.
