Philip Lee partner Gerard Byrne has helped to raise more than €25,000 for autism charity AsIAm by taking part in a 131km kayaking challenge.

Mr Byrne and five friends smashed through their initial €10,000 fundraising target for their ambitious effort to kayak the full length of the Grand Canal.

Previously working in the London office of a global law firm, Mr Byrne joined Philip Lee as a partner in the firm’s dispute resolution and litigation practice just last month.

He told Irish Legal News: “I was delighted to take part in this challenge to support the very important work of AsIAm. Unfortunately, some of those diagnosed with autism in Ireland do not receive the support they need in the timely manner that they need it.

“AsIAm, which relies heavily on fundraising efforts, works to deliver much needed services to children with autism and to create a more inclusive society in which every autistic person is empowered to reach their own personal potential.”

The team is continuing to welcome donations through Gofundme, where the fundraising total currently stands at €25,129.
