The Office of Parliamentary Legal Advisers (OPLA) was named as winner of the Excellence in Communications award at the LEAP Irish Law Awards 2025.

Sponsored by Irish Legal News, the award honours a legal team which has deployed a marketing programme or programme of communication which reflects positively on the legal profession in Ireland and has had a positive effect on the team involved and their clients.

The OPLA is the in-house legal unit within the Houses of the Oireachtas, operating independently of government.

Mellissa English SC, the chief parliamentary legal adviser, said: “The team was delighted to win the Excellence in Communications award at the 2025 LEAP Irish Law Awards, sponsored by Irish Legal News.

“The team strives to continuously communicate on its services to its clients, being the members of both Houses of the Oireachtas, to the legal community and wider public more generally.

“The team has adopted a multi-faceted approach to communications — producing written content, oral presentations, videos and websites, contributing to legal publications, presenting at legal conferences and public engagements both nationally and internationally, and using social media to connect with as wide an audience as possible.”

Irish Legal News editor Connor Beaton said: “I was delighted to present this award to the Office of the Parliamentary Legal Advisers, as I know it is richly deserved.”

More information about the OPLA can be found on the Oireachtas website.
