The Legal Aid Board has officially opened new premises to house Wexford Law Centre.

The new premises at the junction of Slaney Street and Temperance Row will provide an improved environment for client consultation.

Defence Minister Paul Kehoe, TD for Wexford, told the official opening earlier today: “I would like to thank the staff of Wexford Law Centre for your work on behalf of the people of Wexford, which I assure you is very much recognised and appreciated.

“I wish you every success here in the new office, and assure you of the Government’s continued support for the provision of civil legal aid, which reflects our commitment to access to justice for all our citizens.”

Philip O’Leary, chairperson of the Board, said: “The staff of the Legal Aid Board often deal with clients at a time when crises, whether of a family nature or otherwise, envelop them and it is to the credit of everyone working here in Wexford, and nationally, that these cases are addressed with a high level of sensitivity and professionalism.”

Mr O’Leary added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff of Wexford Law Centre for carrying out the move to this new office with minimal disruption to the important work that is carried out for the Board’s clients.”

The Board recently relocated its family mediation office in Wexford to more suitable premises at Redmond Square.

It said the proximity of the Law Centre, the family mediation office and the newly refurbished and reopened Wexford Courthouse offered “a good opportunity for these offices to inter-act and improve solutions, particularly for those experiencing family problems”.
