Netflix documentary on Irish man's killing nominated for Emmy

A Netflix documentary about the 2015 killing of Irish man Jason Corbett has been nominated for an Emmy award.

A Deadly American Marriage has been nominated for a 47th News & Documentary Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary.

Mr Corbett was killed in his North Carolina home on 2 August 2015 by his American wife, Molly Martens, and her father, Tom Martens, who were convicted of manslaughter under a plea bargain.

Jason’s Journey, a campaign group set up by his family members, welcomed the nomination as “a meaningful recognition of the importance of telling Jason Corbett’s story with honesty, dignity and care”.

“It reflects not only the power of documentary storytelling, but also the importance of continuing to raise awareness around truth, justice, loss and the lifelong impact of violence on families,” the group said in a statement.

“For all those who have supported Jason’s story over the years, and for everyone who has stood with Jack, Sarah and Jason’s family in the pursuit of truth, this moment carries deep meaning.

“We extend our sincere thanks to all those who have supported, and continue to support, the pursuit of truth and justice, and to the filmmakers and all involved in bringing this documentary to an international audience.”
