Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring to retire

The US-born judge called to the bar in 1985 and took silk in 2002, before being appointed as a Circuit Court judge in 2012 and then to the High Court in 2015.

She also served as chairperson of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc) — now known as Fiosrú — from 2015 to 2021.

Retirement tributes will be heard in the High Court on Friday, her final sitting day.

“On Friday 19 December 2025, at 10am, the High Court will sit in Court 6, Criminal Courts of Justice, Parkgate Street, to hear tributes to Mr. Justice Ring to mark her retirement from the bench,” the Courts Service said.
