McCann FitzGerald trainees to be offered work in New York in Irish law firm first

McCann FitzGerald has announced that incoming trainees at the firm will have the unique opportunity to spend part of their training cohort in New York.

The firm’s graduate traineeship programme is centred around a rotation system, with every trainee spending time in one of the core practice groups. During each of the placements, trainees share an office and work alongside a partner on a one-to-one basis.

As of September, trainees will have the opportunity to work in McCann FitzGerald’s New York office, advising US and international clients on Irish business law issues with Gary McSharry, partner and head of the New York office.

Barry Devereux, managing partner of McCann FitzGerald, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for our trainees to spend time working in one of our fastest growing international offices, as we continue to expand our range of services to meet both Irish and US client demand.

“No other Irish law firm currently offers a trainee placement in New York and it is this advantage, as well as a carefully structured programme that offers trainees exposure to high-quality work in all areas of the firm’s practice, the sets our graduate traineeship programme apart.”

Darragh Hyland, McCann FitzGerald’s first New York trainee, said: “In New York, it really feels like we are on the frontline, representing both the firm and the country more generally. Here I see for myself the value that we bring to US clients who are considering using Ireland as a base from which to access the European market, which is of particular importance as Brexit gets closer.”
