Maynooth University appoints criminology lecturer

Maynooth University Department of Law has announced the appointment of Dr Ian D. Marder as a lecturer in criminology.

Canadian-born Dr Marder grew up in the UK and holds a BA, MA and PhD in criminal justice from Leeds University School of Law.

As part of his PhD, he researched the institutionalisation of restorative justice in the police in two English police forces.

Dr Marder is currently working as a scientific expert for the Council of Europe, with whom he is drafting a new Recommendation on restorative justice in criminal matters.

He is also a restorative justice practitioner and has conducted research on restorative justice for a number of organisations. He founded and manages the Community of Restorative Researchers.

His criminological research interests include restorative justice, policing, sentencing, practitioner decision-making and criminal justice policy.

Dr Marder has taught widely across criminology and criminal justice modules and will continue to do so on undergraduate and postgraduate criminology programmes at Maynooth University.
