Matheson's former charity arm hands €2m to charity

The former charitable arm of Matheson donated €2 million to Irish charities before relinquishing its charitable status, The Irish Times reports.

A year ago, the firm announced it would be reviewing the activities of the Matheson Foundation following allegations that it owned a number of “vulture funds” for tax purposes.

This year, Matheson relinquished the charitable status of the three entities - Eurydice, Medb and Badb - that made up the Foundation.

Accounts recently filed by the three organisations show that each of them made donations of €639,000 last year, emptying their bank accounts but retaining €107,000 in other assets.
