Matheson has announced plans to mark the firm’s 200th anniversary throughout 2025.

The firm traces back its “family tree” to Richard Alexander Walker and Matthew Anderson, two solicitors practising in Georgian Dublin in 1825.

Now one of the largest law firms in Ireland, Matheson employs more than 900 people working in six offices across three countries on two continents.

Managing partner Michael Jackson said: “2025 is an historic year for the firm, as we celebrate 200 years of history and continue to invest in innovating for the future.

“We are looking forward to sharing more about our journey, our history and the firm’s many contributions to Irish business and society.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to tell the story of our firm and reflect on the contributions and impact which the rule of law, lawyers, and the legal profession more generally, have made.

“Matheson today is, and throughout its history has been, a firm that has been defined by its people. Some of the most eminent and respected practitioners in Ireland over the past 200 years have helped build our firm, a tradition that carries on today.

“As we mark this anniversary, we reflect on our work with the very best across all sectors in Ireland and internationally.

“We are very proud of this milestone and are ambitious for 2025 and beyond.”

A history of Matheson book by well-known historian Turtle Bunbury is to be launched later this year, the firm has said.

It has also unveiled a dedicated section of its website designed to showcase the firm’s history.

A series of events for staff, clients and the wider Matheson community will take place over the course of the year, alongside a social media campaign.
