Man to face trial for alleged assault on retired judge

A man is set to face trial for the alleged assault of a retired District Court judge.
Jamie O’Connor, 44, has been charged with assault causing harm contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.
The charge relates to an incident involving Joseph Mangan outside a café on Barrack Court in Ennis, Co Clare on Saturday 14 June.
Mr Mangan served as the assigned District Court judge for Clare from 2001 until his retirement in 2011.
Prosecutors have directed that the trial should take place before Ennis Circuit Court, The Irish Times reports.
O’Connor has been in custody since 18 June.
