LK Shields has advised the Reihill family on their signing of an agreement to sell Top Oil to Irving Oil, a Canadian company.

Top Oil is an Irish-owned family company with a 200-year trading history. It has a fuel retail network of 180 service stations and fuel terminal in Dublin and sells over 1 billion litres of fuel throughout Ireland every year.

Irving Oil, another family-owned business, operates Canada’s largest refinery, a large fuel distribution business in Canada and Ireland’s only refinery located in County Cork.

The transaction was led by Philip Daly, partner in the firm’s corporate and commercial department and head of the firm’s energy unit.

He was assisted by Lisa McEllin and Ruairi Mulrean (corporate and commercial), Clair Cassidy and Elaine O’Connor (commercial property), Andrew Power (banking), Gillian Dully (employment and pensions) and Marco Hickey (competition law).

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.
