Law student Matthew Cahill wins Chief State Solicitor’s Office essay competition

Congratulations are due to the winners of the Chief State Solicitor’s Office third annual Student Law Essay Competition.
This year, undergraduate law students across Ireland were invited to address the question: “As Ireland takes up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, please describe the impact of the EU Constitutional order in shaping law in Ireland.”
The winners are:
- 1st - Matthew Cahill, UCD Sutherland School of Law
- 2nd - Daragh Jennings, University of Galway School of Law
- 3rd - Kateryna H., South East Technological University
Prizes were presented at a ceremony at the CSSO’s headquarters in Smithfield Hall, where the winners met Chief State Solicitor Maria Browne and other senior lawyers from the Office.
