Law Society extends registration deadline for AI course after record demand

The Law Society of Ireland has extended the registration deadline for its free online course on artificial intelligence after a record number of sign-ups.
Over 6,450 people from 84 countries have registered for the five-week course, which is open to members of the public — making it the most popular course since the Law Society’s annual offering began in 2014.
Due to the high demand, this year’s course closure date has been extended until Tuesday 19 August.
The course offers participants an opportunity to delve into the world of AI, to better understand its benefits and challenges, learn what AI can be used for now and in the future, and to become with familiar with issues surrounding data security, ethical concerns and economic consequences.
Law Society president Eamon Harrington said: “You don’t need to have prior knowledge about AI to get something from this course. Instead, it aims to remove the mystery and instil confidence in understanding the scope and power of AI tools.”
Iryna Koliada, a fraud and deception project manager at Meta, was a participant on this year’s course and described it as “a truly insightful and enriching learning experience”.
“I appreciated how it combined legal analysis — especially around EU legislation — with broader, practical discussions that are relevant across industries,” she said.
“The format was accessible and engaging, with excellent reading materials, expert-led video content, and interactive discussion forums. The final knowledge check was a great tool to reflect on key learnings.
“I’d highly recommend this course to both legal and non-legal professionals interested in understanding the real-world impact of AI.”
David Slattery, enterprise account executive at SurveyMonkey, also completed this year’s AI course.
He said: “The Law Society’s recent course on AI exceeded my expectations. The timely and practical course offered clear insights into how AI is already shaping legal practice and wider sectors.
“The content was thoughtfully delivered by expert speakers and the communication throughout the course was exceptional.”

Mr Harrington said: “This AI course is open to anyone and everyone, anywhere in the world.
“From school children upwards, if you have an interest in learning about AI and its influence on wider society, you are invited to take part and upskill for free.
“With the course deadline extended, participants can now access and complete the course up until Tuesday 19 August 2025.”
