Judges claimed €1.65 million in expenses in 2015

Expenses claimed by judges in 2015 declined by €80,000 on the previous year to reach a total of €1.65 million, The Irish Times reports.

According to the newspaper, District Court Judge Terence Finn in Co Cork made the highest claim of €52,800. This included over €41,000 in subsistence and €11,650 in travel expenses.

Other claims by District Court judges include:

  • Judge John O’Neill - €43,000
  • Judge Séamus Hughes - €39,700
  • Judge Gerard Furlong - €39,200
  • Judge Kevin Kilraine - €38,000
  • The highest claim at Circuit Court level was by Judge Donagh McDonagh in Co Cork, who claimed €31,000, including €20,600 in subsistence and €10,000 in travel expenses.

    Other claims by Circuit Court judges include:

    • Judge John Hanan - €30,400
    • Judge Rory McCabe - €30,200
    • Judge James O’Donohue - €28,000
    • Judge Eugene O’Kelly - €27,000
    • The largest claim from a High Court judge was €9,220 from Mr Justice Paul Butler, including €4,600 in subsistence, €2,700 in travel expenses, and almost €1,800 for incidental expenses.

      The largest claim in the Court of Appeal was €4,300 from Mr Justice John Edwards. The largest claim in the Supreme Court was €2,600 from Mr Justice Frank Clarke.
