Irish Top Gear producer launches racial discrimination claim

Irish Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon is suing Jeremy Clarkson and the BBC for “racial discrimination” stemming from an anti-Irish slur allegedly made by Clarkson before he split the producer’s lip.

Clarkson reported the March 4th incident to the BBC five days later, and was suspended by the broadcaster on March 10th.

Clarkson is alleged to have called Mr Tymon a “lazy Irish ****” during the fracas and was dismissed by the BBC earlier this year, after he punched Tymon in a row over hot food during the show’s production.

A BBC investigation, led by BBC Scotland boss Ken MacQuarrie, found that Clarkson had subjected the 36-year-old Irishman to a 30-second physical attack and sustained verbal abuse.

Given the former host’s long-standing history of controversial comments, which a few have seen as racist, it seems doubtful the BBC could prove they took all reasonable steps to prevent Clarkson from engaging in that type of behaviour.

Slater and Gordon confirmed it is representing Mr Tymon.
