Niall Collins, minister of state for justice, is joining the president of the High Court, Mr Justice David Barniville, and leading Irish legal firms for the Ireland for Law Business Mission 2025.
The mission runs from Tuesday 9 September to Thursday 11 September and includes a programme of events across Manhattan.
Among the leading Irish legal firms attending are A&L Goodbody, Addlewshaw Goddard, Arthur Cox, Clark Hill, DAC Beachcroft, Dillon Eustace, Maples Group, Mason Hayes & Curran, Matheson, McCann Fitzgerald, Norton Rose Fulbright, Pinsent Masons and RDJ.
Speaking ahead of the mission, Mr Collins said: “This mission highlights Ireland’s growing role on the global stage as a trusted and innovative legal centre.
“By engaging directly with international partners, we can demonstrate not only the strength and independence of our legal system, but also Ireland’s openness, adaptability, and forward-looking approach to supporting business needs.
“Since its establishment in 2019, Ireland for Law has played a key role in promoting Irish legal services worldwide. The Department of Justice is proud to support this initiative and to work with our legal community in building lasting connections that enhance Ireland’s reputation as a destination of choice for international legal business.”
Speaking on behalf of Ireland for Law, Mark Garrett, director general of the Law Society of Ireland, said: “Ireland for Law plays a central role in bringing together every part of the Irish legal community to showcase Ireland internationally.
“This collective effort is strengthened by the strong partnership with government, and we greatly value the State’s continued commitment to this mission and to advancing the wider work of Ireland for Law.
“We look forward to meeting with our international legal community in New York this week to learn from each other and collaborate on best practice approaches to administer justice.”
The business mission will feature high-profile events, including two panel discussions focusing on dispute resolution supported by Cardozo School of Law and Clark Hill; a session on Ireland’s Commercial Court, held in partnership with New York State Bar Association and Fordham School of Law; and a lunchtime event on corporate restructuring and insolvency, supported by the Bank of Ireland NYC Hub.
The mission will conclude with a reception at the Irish consulate in New York, where the delegation will be hosted by Gerald Angley, newly appointed consul general of Ireland to New York.
Mr Collins and Mr Justice Barniville will make contributions at each event, while members of the Bar of Ireland and Irish-based law firm partners will join members of the US judiciary and international legal community on a number of panels.
