Irish lawyers invited to join New York delegation

Solicitors and barristers have been invited to join a business mission to promote Ireland in New York City as an attractive jurisdiction for business.
A delegation of lawyers, joined by the president of the High Court, Mr Justice David Barniville, and junior justice minister Niall Collins, will travel across the Atlantic this September.
Ireland for Law will host a series of networking and information events across Manhattan from 9–11 September 2025.
Among the planned events as part of the mission are an event on dispute resolution in partnership with the Cardozo School of Law and an event at the Irish consulate in New York, where the delegation will be hosted by Gerald Angley, who will by then have taken up the role of consul general of Ireland to New York.
Other events being planned include an event on insolvency and restructuring and an event specifically targeting in-house counsel based in New York, making the case for their business to choose Ireland for contract law.
Mr Justice Barniville, barristers and Irish-based law firm partners will join members of the US judiciary and legal fraternity on a number of panels.
Paul McGarry SC said: “Ireland for Law is a unifying element in the Irish legal ecosystem, bringing together the Bar of Ireland, the Law Society of Ireland, commercial firms and in-house counsel across every sector, to represent Ireland on the global stage.
“This has all been made possible by the collaborative work of the government and we welcome the State commitment to this mission and the wider, ongoing work of Ireland for Law.”
Mr Collins added: “There has never been a more important time for strengthening international relationships and this mission will be a fantastic opportunity for Ireland’s legal community to showcase our robust legal system, our commitment to modernisations and the competitive cost structures which make our jurisdiction so attractive to international business.
“The Department of Justice established Ireland for Law in 2019 as a vital initiative to promote Irish law and Irish legal services to the international business community.
“The Department is dedicated to the ongoing work of Ireland for Law to strengthen our reputation as a leading centre for international legal services, and I am delighted to join this delegation as part of that ongoing mission.”
