Hugh O'Donoghue appointed to healthcare workers' regulator

Barrister Hugh O’Donoghue has been appointed to the Health and Social Care Professionals Council, part of multi-profession health regulator CORU.

Mr O’Donoghue brings extensive multi-jurisdictional experience in regulation to the role. He is a member of the Law Library and of Mountford Chambers of Ely Place, London.

He is also a former solicitor associated with some prominent leadership roles in specialised committees of the Law Society of Ireland.

Mr O’Donoghue is an expert in judicial review, human rights and constitutional law.

His appointment by the health minister, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, took effect last month and will run until 20 March 2027.

The Health and Social Care Professionals Council has 33 voluntary members and a chair.

It is responsible for overseeing the governance and strategy of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council, including finance and risk; staffing; legal decisions and strategic planning.
