High Court sits in nursing home for first time

Mr Justice
Peter Kelly

The High Court sat in a Dublin nursing home yesterday in a legal first, The Irish Times reports.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly, president of the High Court, agreed to the unusual sitting to hear testimony from a man at the centre of a capacity dispute.

The man, in his 60s, is opposing an HSE application to have him made a ward of court, with support from the group Sage Advocacy.

He is appealing for permission from the court to return to his own home.

The man has severe epilepsy and brain disease to the point where his doctor feared a court hearing could trigger a seizure.

Mr Justice Kelly will give judgment on the case in the Four Courts next Tuesday 7 August.
